Jazz?

So a few weeks ago, I was given a nice pile of records, stuff one of my Dad's friend's didn't want anymore. Mostly some killer classic rock stuff, but mixed in was this:

Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda, feat. Pharoah Sanders

OK, So I know little to nothing about Jazz, well other than the world of John Zorn, whom I have an extensive discography of, but I have heard the Coltrane's names before, though never heard anything by them. Wow, where the hell have I been? This record RULES. The live track at the end is especially amazing. check it:

OK, here is where you come in, PLEASE give me some Jazz recommendations that are along similar lines as this. You know, kinda chill, improv I guess, ambient/experimental/avant-garde/psychedelic, etc, etc. What other Coltrane records? Sun Ra I'm also guessing would be along these lines? but where do I start?

Point me in a direction please! It's appreciated!

thanks!

I like it, but I'm in the same boat as you were, except that I have zero jazz records, not even on buried in a stack of classic rock.

Ok, so my Jazz knowledge is also zero BUT I know a German ambient/doom/avant-garde/something label called Denovali Records and they also sign some Jazz Bands, i.e.
"The Contemporary Noise Sextet" [http://www.myspace.com/cnquintet]

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble [http://www.myspace.com/tkde]

Mouse On The Keys [http://www.denovali.com/mouseonthekeys/]

AND please check out Celeste if you don't know them yet. They're also signed to Denovali. These french guys make the best - um...because of my lazyness I'll call it - Black Metal. You can download their entire catalouge for free right here: http://denovali.com/celeste/

awesome, these are great! esp The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble. Thank you!! Also I should mention Bohren & Der Club of Gore are also amazing.

Yeah, forgot Bohren...
Today I found another experimental Jazz Band signed to Denovali (man that label is just pure awesomeness!) called

Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation [http://denovali.com/mountfuji/]

It's basically The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble under a new name and different music. They're doomier and in my opinion also darker, very very gloomy...
